Connie Talbot
If you're a member of Connie Talbot's official forum, then odds are that you've read this already. Connie's forum has been down for several days now, and I don't know what's going on with it. When the forum first went down, I checked my computer to see if I had saved what I had written up after meeting Connie. I hadn't. I was a bit upset, thinking I had forever lost my "reports" of the two days of seeing Connie in concert and meeting her. Today, I remembered that I might have posted them on a different forum I go on. Expecting the disappointment of not being able to find it, I logged on to the forum... and found what I was looking for.
Note: Dan and I aren't friends anymore. It's a long, complicated story that I'd rather not get into. I know what happened between us. He knows. And my best friend knows. No one else needs to. I happened a while ago. It's done, over with, in the past.
Also note: I didn't lose the pictures I took. They're up on facebook and on my grandma's camera (I'd borrowed her camera for the two days I saw Connie). I also didn't lose the videos I filmed; they're up on youtube and I'll link to them at the end of this post.
November 27th 2009 - performance at the Hartford Festival of Light in Hartford, Conneticut.
One of my best friends, Dan, picked me up at around 11:30 this morning. The signing at the Connecticut Science Center started at 3, and it would take just about 2 hours to get from my house to science center. We left so early because 1 - the weather was supposed to be bad, 2 - we had absolutely no idea how to get there, and 3 - we figured it would probably be best to get there early. We got there right around 1:30 (so yup, it took us 2 hours to get there! lol, I guess mapquest was right) and went right to the science center. We just walked around for a bit.. There weren't that many people, but it was still early so.... Finally one of the people who worked there asked us "can I help you?" and Dan says "Yeah, we're here for the Connie Talbot signing..." The woman looked so confused and said (after about a minutes pause) "Oh is she that little singer girl?" Dan and I both said "yeahhh." and she goes "Oh ok, she'll be here around 4."
We didn't want to just hang out in the science center, so we went outside and were just walking around. I heard someone over a loudspeaker and I was like "Oh, I wonder what that is... let's go check it out." So we followed the sound of the person talking into the microphone until we found out where it was coming from.. It was Connie's rehearsal for tonight! We stayed and listened to her sing. I don't think we were supposed to be there though because everyone else who was there had something to do with Connie.
At 3, we decided to head back over to the science center and wait for the signing to start. There still weren't that many people there, but there were more than there had been earlier. Both of us felt bad that we didn't have a toy to donate to Toys For Tots, so we went into the gift shop and bought this REALLY cute stuffed animal, and put it in the Toys For Tots donation box. Connie got there around 3:30. She was wearing the CUTEST blue dress. I really wish I had gotten a picture of it, but the lighting was sooo bad with my grandma's digital camera. I got a picture with Connie! I was soooo happy about that. The picture came out really dark, but I can fix it in photoshop.. One of the guys standing by Connie asked Dan and I if we were going to the show later, and we said yeah. He told us that he was sure we would have a really good time and that it would be a great show.
Connie was so cute signing the autograph. She asked me who she should write it to, and I said "oh, to Kim." And she goes "K I M?" I said "Yepp :)” She says "ok :)” and signs it. I was sooooo unbelievably happy!!! I said to her "thank you SO much Connie!!" and she said back "it's ok :)" and laughed. Does she EVER stop smiling? She was smiling the whole time during rehearsal and the signing and the show.... She's such a happy kid and really loves doing what she does.
After I got the CD signed and got a picture with Connie, Dan and I went back to his car to put the CD in the car. Then we just walked around for a bit more. We went back over to the stage where we had watched the rehearsal and hung out there. It was 4, which meant there was only an hour until there would be more things going on. It was soooo cold outside! At 5, there was a short preview of a ballet that's gonna be going on sometime soon in Connecticut. It was pretty cool. Then finally, at 5:30, some guy (I don't know what his name was... they said it so many times during the show, but it just wouldn't stay in my brain for whatever reason... anyways) talked about Toys For Tots and how it started and everything.... then he read off Connie's resume (Britain's Got Talent, Ellen, Oprah, how many hits on youtube, etc.) and then he goes "And she's only 8 years old!!! Please welcome... all the way from Britain's Got Talent... CONNIE TALBOT!" and everyone cheered. (Connie was actually 9 at the time, not 8. She had just turned 9 about a week before this performance).
She sang 4 songs. White Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear, Jingle Bells, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Everyone watching cheered really loud for her. And after the show, a lot of people were talking about how amazing her voice is.
It was sooooo much fun!! I can't wait to see her again tomorrow!
I didn't get very many pictures... I got 3 during her rehearsal and then the one of me with her. It was too dark to take pictures while she was performing, so I filmed it instead. The audio quality isn't great, but it's not that bad.
November 28th 2009 - performance at Boscov's in Colonie Center in Colonie, New York.
Dan picked up my cousin (Sara), my little sister (Hailey), and I this morning around 11:30ish. We went to my grandparents house to hang out there for a bit because it was too early to head up to Albany. (Albany is only 45 minutes away from where I live.. maybe an hour if there's traffic). I don't know what time we finally left to go to the mall, but we got there around 1. We walked around for a bit trying to find where Connie's performance would be so we would know where to go at 3 to see her sing. Once we found where Boscov's is, Hailey goes "is she gonna sing there? On that stage?" and points to a little stage right outside Boscov's. Then we went into the store to see where she would be signing autographs after the performance.
Once we knew where everything was, the 4 of us just walked around the mall for a while. Sara and Hailey wanted to get food, so at like 2ish we went to the food court for them to have lunch. Sara is a huge fan of Connie... Hailey has only heard Connie's music once before today. So by this time, we're all really excited to see Connie perform. As soon as they were done, we went back downstairs to the stage outside Boscov's and sat down on the ground with a bunch of other people. There were a lot of parents with little kids there.
Dan and I were talking about how wouldn't it be cool if Connie's people recognized us from yesterday... and guess what! They did! One of the guys we saw yesterday, the one who asked us if we were going to the show after the signing at the science center, (I think his name is Harry.) came over to us and asked if we were following them (lol) because we were at the show yesterday too. I laughed and said that we were big fans of Connie and that after we had found out about the show in Albany after we already made plans to go to the show in Hartford, and that my cousin and sister like Connie's music so we figured why not take them to the show today. He introduced me to Shawn (who is really nice by the way!). Shawn told me that Connie would be singing 5 songs today, and I said that that's awesome. I talked to him for a few minutes and then went back over to Sara, Hailey, and Dan. Then Harry came back over to me and told me that Sharon wanted to meet Dan and I after the signing. I thought that was sooo cool! And he also gave me a Toys For Tots bracelet and said it's "from Connie's team". I like the bracelet a lot! I've been wearing it since he gave it to me earlier.
Before Connie sang, members of the choir in at the high school in Colonie (I think that's where they were from anyway) sang 2 songs. Both were really good. The first that they sang was kinda weird... but I liked it. I liked their second song better though.
The it was time for Connie. As she was walking on stage, Sara gasped and goes "That's her!! That's really Connie there!!" I just laughed. I was in such a great mood. Like Shawn said, Connie sang 5 songs. The looks on Sara and Hailey's faces when Connie started singing completely made my day. I love seeing them so happy.
The last song Connie sang was Ave Maria. As soon as the music started, I was just like "Oh my gosh!!!" I recorded this song on video. The audio isn't the greatest on the video (because I recorded it with my grandma's digital camera), but still... I just needed to record it. I really can't explain how this song affected me. It was like.... hearing her sing it on her album is one thing. Seeing her sing it live one video (on youtube or on tv) is another thing. But seeing her sing it live (in person) was just... wow. I seriously had shivers down my back and tears in my eyes. It was just so amazing. I know Dan felt the same way because he told me so when we were waiting in line to get an autograph.
Once we finally got up to get Connie's autograph, she remembered Dan and I from yesterday. Dan and Hailey both bought her Holiday Magic CD for her to sign. Sara brought a picture (of Connie) she printed out. And I brought my copy of her CD, Over The Rainbow. (I got my copy of Holiday Magic signed yesterday). After we got autographs from her, the 4 of us got a group picture with her.
Then we went and we met Sharon and talked to her for a bit. She was really sweet. She asked us if we had gotten the picture of Connie with the 2 Marines and we said we hadn't, so she got each of us a copy of that picture. She had Connie sign them too, which was really cool and nice of her to do. Sara and Hailey were both REALLY REALLY happy now because now they had 2 autographs from Connie. It was around 4:30 by this time. We figured we would get going soon. I went to say goodbye to Shawn and to thank him, but every time I would go over towards him, he would go over to the other side of Connie. It was kinda funny, actually. I met a woman who I think is a part of Connie's team (I can't remember what she said her name is) and we talked for a few minutes. Next thing I know, it's 5 o'clock, and we (Dan, Sara, Hailey, and I) only have about 1/2 an hour until we need to leave to meet my family for dinner. Finally we get to say goodbye to Shawn, and then we left.
The way to dinner, we listened to Holiday Magic. Then at dinner, my dad, my grandparents, my step-mom, and my aunt kept asking us about today so the 4 of us ended up talking about it pretty much the whole time at dinner. Going back to my grandparent's house, we listened to a couple songs from Over The Rainbow, and then we listened to all the songs from Holiday Magic. Back at my grandparents house, we ended up talking more about today and showing the autographs and pictures we got to everyone.
