Another Spectacular Video from Connie Talbot

The world's favorite 10-year-old has done it again; put up another video that leaves everybody speechless. If you still haven't seen Connie's amazing cover of Adele's "Someone Like You," you've got to check that one out. (And if you have seen it, watch it again anyway :) No matter how many times I listen to it, I'm still just as amazed as I was the first time I saw it.)



Now, Connie has taken on a song by another popular singer - Beyoncé, and people LOVE it! Uploaded only a couple of hours ago, the video already has upwards of 300 views and nearly 200 likes! Check it out:



This ten-years-old kid is probably one of the most talented people in the entire world. That big voice doesn't seem possible for such a small/young child, but it is. I don't know what to say, other than: I absolutely loveloveLOVE Connie's voice.

Look, I'm not a music critic. But I know what I like and what I don't like. And Connie's voice is something that I love. I'm not a huge Beyoncé fan, but I like her music (and love a couple of her songs) and I recognize that she is extremely talented. "Halo" is my favorite Beyoncé song, and Connie did a brilliant job with her cover of it.

Here is what I commented on Connie's cover of "Halo":

"Connie, you continue to leave me speechless with each video you put up! This was GREAT, and the high notes (especially at 0:44 and from 2:58 - 3:26) and I don't know what it's called, but what you do with your voice at the words "you out" at 0:59 and "halo" at 3:55 sounded SO natural and... I mean, your voice always sounds so natural because you're so good at singing... but... ahhh I don't even know how to describe what I'm trying to say. :P
anyway, phenomenal job on this, Connie! :D"

Out of curiosity, what is it called - what she does with her voice at 59 seconds and 3 minutes, 55 seconds? Is there a word for it?

I don't know about you guys, but I can see "Halo" becoming a hit the same way "Someone Like You" did. Anyway, subscribe to Connie's youtube page to know when she posts a new video. :)

Eight Months Later

Eight months ago today, I was diagnosed as autistic.  And some days I feel like I’m still processing that diagnosis.  It’s something that, for so long, I had thought/suspected about myself and I thought, because I’d thought it for so long, that that knowing wouldn’t change anything.  And in some ways, most ways, nothing in my life has changed except that   I   know now and so do other people.  I mean, I’d started accommodating myself before that diagnosis – I got a weighted blanket for when I was experiencing anxiety or restlessness or just couldn’t sleep; I bought Loop earplugs to help with noise and started wearing them to things like concerts or hockey games or even the plays that we go to; I keep fidget toys at my desk at work; hell I even started keeping my hair short so it wouldn’t be   touching  me because I hate that sensory experience so much – so in my head, I thought it would be the same, I’d just be more knowledgeable about myself....

The Next President...

I didn't sleep last night; I was too afraid that America was going to make the worst possible decision.  And we did.  Somehow, Donald Trump became the president-elect.  Somehow, enough people actually voted for him.  Somehow, people support his racism , sexism , homophobia , Islamophobia .  Somehow, people were able to look past not only the fact that he has virtually no political experience and was the least qualified candidate for the job, but they were also able to look past the way he treats women and the fact that he's sexually assaulted multiple women.  (Wondering why it takes people so long to come forward about abuse?  Because we live in a country where their assailant can become leader of the free world.) A Trump presidency scares me so much.
