Zombies, Run!

I decided I want to take steps to a healthier me.  I know I'm skinny, so it's not about losing weight.  It's completely about the fact that I am ridiculously and embarrassingly out of shape.  So I decided I want to start running, but I needed some sort of motivation to keep running.  I bought and downloaded the "Zombies, Run!" app for the iPhone because, well, what better motivation for running than surviving a zombie apocalypse?

Today was my first day of running (and of using the app).  I walked over to the track by my house and walked/ran for a total of 53 minutes.  I walked for most of the time, but I ran for a bit too.  Every time I ran, even though I only ran for short distances, I had to stop for a good minute to minute and a half to catch my breath again.  But I didn't give up.  I kept going.  And for that alone, I'm proud of myself.  I know that if I keep up with this, I will eventually be able to run more than walk when I do this.  (I don't think I'll EVER be running 53 minutes straight though.  Do people even do that?  Is that a thing?)

On the app, I finished the first mission, where my helicopter crashed after being shot down, and I became a member of the Abel township.  I ran through an abandoned hospital, collecting items as I ran (because all citizens in the township are expected to earn their keep), and - thankfully - outrunning the small hoard of zombies that noticed me.  I collected the CDC file that Sam needed me to collect, and then, after making it through the gate and into the township, I met Runner 7, who is the "unofficial leader" of the Abel township.  I'm referred to as "Runner 5," as the previous Runner 5 is now one of the zombies.

I also started (but haven't finished yet) the second mission.  So far, Runner 7 has taken me on a tour of the township, which thankfully is on the top of a hill, which gives us a good view of the surrounding area.  He's told me that I can't leave Abel until the military is willing to pull me out, which could probably take quite a while.  He's told me about some of the other townships in the area, but he told me that we don't associate with them much.  He spotted something in a tree, and sent me to get it, even though their was a zombie between me and the object (which turned out to be a government supply drop).  I'm not too trustful of Runner 7 at the moment...

And that's as far as I've gotten so far.  Tomorrow, as long as it isn't raining, I'll head out and finish mission 2 and most likely at least start mission three.  I really like this app.

At one point while I was running, Runner 7 told me I had to sprint faster... and I was so into the story that I forgot for a minute that I wasn't actually trying to escape from a zombie... and, out loud, I said "I can't, Runner 7!  I can't go faster!"

I think maybe one day, I might head over the one of the cemeteries around here to do this.  That ought to be neat, considering the whole zombie thing...
