Nathan is 4!
I wasn't sure if I'd see him or not today (I never know when he'll be downstairs), so I gave him his present yesterday. He didn't want it because it was clothes (I'm so done with clothes, Kimberly!), and then I disappointed him again because "um, there's no money in this card." I didn't know what to say back, so I just laughed. I think that was the first time I was actually really annoyed with him. And I don't know what bothered me more: that he didn't say thank you, or that he expected there to be money in the card. Heck, I'm not even related to him and I still spent more on him than some of his family members did. I know, I know, it's not about what you spend. But it's like... I didn't have to get him anything, but I did. Because I wanted to. But anyway, enough on that.
*Yesterday* me: "hey almost 4 year old!" Nathan: "no, I'm 3." me: "still?" Nathan: "Yeah because my birthday is on March 18th, and today is only........... Thursday."
Anyways. Nathan, Nathan, Nathan. My baby Nathan, who I've known since he was 2 years old, is 4 now. Don't get me wrong, Trisha and Candis are growing up fast too, but it seems like Nay is growing up faster than they are. When I think "Nathan" (or "Nay," as he suddenly only wants to be called), I still think of that adorable two-year-old who wanted to be my best friend right from the first time he saw me just because I was wearing a Spongebob t-shirt. I don't think of a kid who'll be starting Kindergarten two Septembers from now.
It doesn't feel like very long ago that he had just learned his ABC's and was showing off, singing them to me again and again and again. But it was. It was October, when he was around two and a half years old.
But he's a "big kid" now (or so he says.) He's too old for hugs and kisses and getting his picture taken. (Yeahhh, let's see how long that last one lasts for. Kid loves being in pictures. Well, actually.... lately he has preferred to be behind the camera than in front of it. And let me tell you, he takes some pretty damn good pictures for a little kid.)
Happy birthday, Nay. And don't forget to say thank you for the presents you get at your party at mommy's house tomorrow. And stop growing up so fast, k? You're making me old! haha :) Love you Nathan. (You're always gonna be Nathan to me. I'll call you Nay in real life, but when I write, you're Nathan. Nay just isn't catching on.)
