phone call from Candis

I texted Candis's mom earlier, asking her to tell Candis happy birthday for me.  She texted me back a few minutes later, saying that she was going to call because when she told Candis that I had said happy birthday, she (Candis) wanted to talk to me.  Apparently, she misses me.  I always worry that the kids will forget about me.  I guess I do have to realize that I'm not always going to be in their lives.  This fall, when I go away to college, I'll be away from them a lot more than I ever have been (since I met them, anyway).  And I know that, downstairs, they're looking for a bigger apartment.  And if they move, who knows when I'll see them again?  My one neighbor, she said that she'd send me pictures of the kids and stuff while I'm away, and I really appreciate that.  And Nathan is learning to write his ABC's, so I can write him letters and stuff...  I hate thinking about leaving them.  Ok, so anyway, phone call from Candis.

Me: Hi Candis!

Candis: HIII KIMERLY!!! Luh you.  (I love how she's learning to say my name.  She used to call me Kimkey.  And after that, it was Kimeree.  So she's getting closer with Kimerly. haha.  And luh.  How adorable is "luh"?  She means love, but says it like luh.  Keep in mind that she's only just turned two.)

Me: What are you doing?

Candis: Miss you, Kimerly.  (She's talking a lot better than she did when she was here.  It used to be that I could understand her mostly just because I spent all my time with her, Trisha, and Nathan.  But now most of her words are understandable, which is definitely a good thing.)

Candis's mom (in the background): Tell her you're watching Elmo.

Candis: ELMO!!!!

Me: You're watching Elmo?  That's really cool.

Candis: Luh you.  Miss you.

Me: Aww, I miss you too sweetie.  Happy birthday!

Candis: Oh.  (Ok, so she's not 100% understandable.  I don't know what exactly she said, but it sounded like "oh".)

Candis's mom (in the background): Tell her thank you!

Candis: Tank you, kay?  (tank = thank)

Me: Ok.  It was good to talk to you. :)

Candis: Miss you.

Me: I miss you too.

Candis: Luh you.  Byeee Kimerly!

Then she gave the phone back to her mom; she was done talking.  (But can you blame her?  I mean, Elmo was on TV! hahaha).  It was only a couple minute phone call, but it still made my day.  She sounded happy, so I'm guessing things are good in Ohio.  It's the first time I've talked to her since they left for Ohio.  The present I sent her (the most adorable outfit I've ever seen in my entire life!) got there today, but she and her mom won't be back at her grandparent's house until Friday.. so she'll get her present from me on Friday.  With how many times she said "luh you" and "miss you," I guess I don't have to worry about her forgetting me any time soon! haha.  I love how the littlest things like that completely make my day.
